Insurance And Medical Care

The school does not carry medical insurance for the teachers as foreign teachers are advised to obtain suitable medical insurance in their home country.
Medical care is China is not expensive as most Western countries. A visit to a doctor will be considered as very expensive if the charge is more than ten or twenty U.S. Dollars. However, it has become very common for Chinese doctors to prescribe some unnecessary but expensive treatments. Therefore, it is advisable for any patient to enquire about the price before taking a treatment especially for something minor like a common cold or headache.
More sophisticated medical treatment is available in big cities like Guangzhou or Nanning but it can be quite expensive by local standard. The standard of medical care in China is similar to most third world countries. It is the general opinion of Hong Konger that medical doctors in China are quite good; the medicine is acceptable especially if one is willing to pay for imported medication but the cleanness of hospitals is nothing like Hong Kong.
PIC has a full time nurse and a part time doctor.  Staff and students can have simple medication and/or treatment from them at no charge.  However, if more sophisticated treatment is needed, one has no choice but going to the local hospital.
