Nanning is almost in the geometric center of the Guangxi Province.  It is about 500 km northwest of Hong Kong.

One can get there by air.  The flight time is about one hour.  One can also go by bus.  It is superhighway all the way so it takes only about 10 hours including rest stops.  Sleeper buses are available so the trip is quite comfortable even by bus especially if one likes to travel at night and sleep in the bus.  A high speed railroad between Guangzhou and Kuming is now under construction and is scheduled to be in operation by the end of 2012.   The railroad will pass by Nanning and the travelling time betwen Guangzhou and Nanning is less than 4 hours.  Adding two hours of travelling time from Hong Kong to Guangzhou, the travelling time between Hong Kong and Nanning is about 6 hours.
